Technical report on status of Red Panda and its habitat in SNP 2020
Study of Status of Red Panda and Its Habitat in SNP was done in 2020 as part of approved activities of Buffer Zone Development Program of F/Y 2076/77. The study was carried out in Chaurikharka Buffer Zone (Ward 2 and 3 of Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality of Soukhumbu) of Sagarmatha National Park. On an average of 1.7 signs/km of abundance with preferable elevation range of 2600-3400 m. was concluded from the study with grazing and bamboo collection being threats to Red Panda Conservation in the study area.

Sagarmatha National Park (SNP), established in 1976 is one of the pioneer protected areas of Nepal. The park was inscribed as world heritage property in 1979 because of its superlative and exceptional natural beauty, which is embedded in the vivid mountains, glaciers, deep valleys and majestic peaks including the world’s highest peak, Mt. Everest. The Gokyo and the associated wetlands, the wetlands of global significance, also lie within Park.

नेपाल जैविक विविधताको धनी देशको रूपमा विश्वमा परिचित छ । सन् १९७० को दशकदेखि संरक्षणको संस्थागत शुरुवात भएकोमा हालसम्म नेपालको २३.३९ प्रतिशत भू–भाग संरक्षित क्षेत्रहरूको रूपमा घोषणा भई संरक्षण तथा व्यवस्थापन कार्यलाई प्राथमिकताको साथ अगाडि बढाइएको हुँदा दुर्लभ एवं महŒवपूर्ण वन्यजन्तुहरूको संख्यामा क्रमिक वृद्धि हुँदै गइरहेको छ । तथापि जैविक विविधता रक्षणको क्षेत्रमा नेपालले हासिल गरेको यो उपलब्धि कायम राख्ने कार्य निकै चुनौतिपूर्ण देखिन्छ ।
